MakeOverMonday - Travel Agents and Online Booking
I have been building quite a number of dashboards from a professional front. Obviously none can be shared on a public domain. So finally I decided to start showcasing some of my learnings on data make over and transformations through this blog. And what better way can it be to start with Andy's MakeOverMonday challenge especially now that I am working for one of the top Online Travel Agents in the US. I am astonished how much business is going through Web and rapidly is OTA taking over Travel agents.
I acknowledged in my earlier post that I tried to simulate the best makeover to understand and learn from those Viz Masters. And this is no different. Andy's and Andy's makeovers are in the original link here. So here is the first cut of my version of the replication.
My Learnings :- Made use of color to show the drop in the number of travel agents and size to show how the Online revenue is growing over a period of time.
- Got a better understanding how to show the correlations between two entities - the drop in travel agents and the rise in the online bookings - through a connected scatter plot.
- For the first time, tried to use the PATH pill and it makes complete sense of its existence. :)
Here is the link to the my Tableau Public profile here.
Happy Data Make Over.
My inspiration to start this blog
Every time, I need some help on transforming the data into visual ways, I always turn to my mentor - Internet. And in that process, I have been following numerous blogsites and learnt a lot. However, few of the blogs have struck my attention so deeply that inadvertently have been following the updates so closely for the last few days / weeks. Every page that I read, I feel WOW....WOW....WOW. And the sites that I refering to are here.
1. Data Viz Done Right
2. Interworks Blog
3. Ryan Sleeper blog
4. Gravy Anecdote
5. Storytelling with Data
I was just blown away with not how strong they are in their areas of specializations (transforming the data into visual ways) but how clear were they in articulating their thought process that any person who ever have worked for any length of time on transforming any amount of data into visual ways will instantly become ardent fans of these blogs. They have been providing such wonderful tips, that led me to think how to record these learnings. And finallly, #MakeOverMonday# fromVizviz is what I believe is the triggering point and that is how this blog came alive.
So why do I want to start with. Well.....I am still NOT at a stage to do #MakeOverMonday# but my goal for now, is to replicate some of my favorite transformations from #MakeOverMonday# and follow along the thought processes of these Zen Masters or MVP.
Happy DataMakeOver....... :)
